What is truffle farming?
Truffle farming is also called truffle culture or growing.
Truffle farming means repurposing mountain areas, hills, places that are abandoned and no longer worked, thus ensuring that local species are preserved and the environment improved.
Truffleland’s farming techniques also mean you can immediately collect returns because of the product collection service with payment on delivery at market price.
How a truffle plantation is created
Designing a truffle plantation requires a large amount of preliminary information on the land that is to be used to host it.
We provide consultancy from agronomists who specialise in the chemical-physical analysis of the soil, its geographic orientation, analysis of the microclimate, identification of the spontaneous flora and the safety of the whole plantation.
Last but not least in terms of importance is our consultancy service on the choice of which variety of truffle to grow, with some of the most important and most requested being black truffles and summer truffles.
Preliminary information on the plantation
- Chemical-physical analysis
- Elevation
- Geographic orientation
- Microclimate
- Spontaneous flora
- Choice of truffle varieties
- Choice of symbiotic species
Pre-plantation information
- Prepare the land carefully
- Technical design of the shape of the plantation
- Choice of the best symbiotic plants
- Choice of the variety of truffle to be grown
- Protecting the plants (shelter, supports, possible mulching, fencing)
- Planning the irrigation system
details of the pre-plantation work
All agronomic work has to be decided according to the kind of soil and the plant-truffle combination that has been decided upon.
Common pre-plantation work includes…
SCRUB CLEARANCE
Elimination of shrub and tree vegetation to eliminate sources of contamination from competing fungi.
STONE GRINDING
Moving large rocks away and grinding stones to make the most of their mulching effect.WORKING THE LAND
Crossed-subsoiling to stimulate air and water circulation followed by surface ploughing with clod improvement.PLANTING LAYOUT
Use large planting distances taking into account the truffle variety that will be grown and the natural surroundings.PLANTING THE TREES
The best time for planting is autumn, winter if the temperatures are just right or spring, while paying attention to late frosts.IRRIGATION
Preparing for irrigation for young mycorrhized seedlings to avoid prolonged water stress, which could cause blight in the plantlets.Italy, the perfect place to grow truffles
It is clear that the land in Italy is particularly suitable for growing truffles and that the truffle market is particularly active and productive.
